Safer Internet Day

Safer Internet Day is an event that takes place every year during the month of February.  This year, on occasion of Its 5th edition it took place in 12 February, 2008.

It is organized by Insafe, the European network for a Safer Internet and, in Spain, by Protegeles, as the Spanish member of the Insafe network.  In 2008, 55 countries from all five continents participated in the celebration of this event.
This year, Protegeles has been in charge of creating, adapting, when necessary, and distributing the promotional spot of the event among all the European organisations members of the INSAFE network.

This spot, after having undergone adaptation to each language and country, sent the same message worldwide: “Life Online is what you make of it”, emphasising that the final responsible of the use of Internet is the user him/herself.
During February 11 and 12, Protegeles drove a bus decorated with the logo and colors of the event to some primary and secondary schools in the Madrid Autonomous Region and took Protegeles’ team of psychologists and specialists in education to the schools for them to inform children about the risks linked to Internet.

Moreover, Protegeles also promoted a safe use of Internet among children from its safe children’s webstite www.portaldelmenor.es by means of organising many activities, lucky draws and contents in the Safer Internet Day.  .

Just in Spain, many different organizations sent their postings to the thematic blogging marathon, the blogathon, on a safer Internet, such as the Madrid Autonomous Region Children Ombudsperson, Mr. Arturo Canalda; Teléfonica; Red.es; the Spanish Labor and Social Affairs Ministry Observatory of Youth (Observatorio de Infancia del Ministerio de Trabajo y Asuntos Sociales), the General Coordinator of the Observatory of Television and Audiovisual Contents, Mr. Alejandro Perales; Orange; Optenet; Icmedia and PROTEGELES.
